Just got back from MBV at the Roundhouse. My first post here too, so hi everyone.

Awesome in the true sense of the word.

On at 915pm, ended at 1045pm, not a word spoken from any of them to the audience! No encore of course.  Kevin's vocals were very low in the mix. First time I've been to the Roundhouse and it's a great venue. I'm going to show my MBV lack of knowledge here but to anyone that was there, what was the song when the backdrop was showing the looped video of the woman falling down the corridor? It was fabulous.

I thought the handing out of earplugs and the signs advertising their availability was a bit of gimmick, but you will need them. Perhaps bring your own as the ones they were handing out were not too comfortable. I lasted without them until about 15 seconds into the 4th song (was stood about half way back) before they had to go in. And it got louder and louder until the inevitable last song - during which was the first time I've ever seen people who were already wearing ear plugs putting still needing to cover their ears!

Would love to hear other people's thoughts on the night.

Just got back myself - was only 9 when Loveless was released, so this was obviously my first experience of them live.  They were amazing; seemed very tight.  Pretty much played everything I hoped they would play; in fact I spent most of the first few songs just amazed that I was actually getting to here this music played live.  It was loud - I made it to the last 5 minutes before capitulating and putting the earplugs in.  I was seated and maybe a quarter of people made use of them.

Anyway, was a great night.  Hope everyone seeing them over the next few days and weeks has fun.  I'm sure you will.

The loop you mentioned was the over the song"Thorn" - I actually have some video of it that I'll post up.
I also took some shots of the stunned crowd during "YMMR" - hilarious!
I almost wept when they played "Come in Alone" - a song, IIRC in as many shows I've seen , that they rarely played in the states.
I was up front for this one but I'll have a different strategy in the upcoming shows...
Overall, awesome - simply awesome... I cannot wait to get a boot!!!

RE: earplugs
I highly recommend musician's earplugs - they're far better than the foams but anything is better than nothing, in this case. I used deadening plugs for the "YMMR Holocost" - Colm's drumming was absolutely stunning!

I didn't use earplugs. Sure my ears are ringing right now, but I know they'll settle down after a good nights kip. 90 mins at that volume won't damage yr ears permantly. Don't stand next to the PA though, and if you've never been to anything REALLY loud before it will be a baptism of fire. This was the most powerful sonic experience I have ever encountered. It was beautiful too.

p.s. repeated listening at that volume prolly will damage tho. so if yr going on consequetive nights,  I would actually recommend earplugs. But I think you only really need to go once.

Yes - Colm's - my most embarrassing mistake... sorry... writing in a hurry...
BTW he sang backup during "Blown A Wish", something I didn't notice way back when.

It's all cool shoe gazer. I'd probably make the same mistake.

They're as loud as I remember them to be and they certainly ramped up the volume as things went on. I saw lots of people with fingers in ears.

There were no new songs. Come In Alone was the highlight for me but I'm a teeny bit sad Honeypower didn't get played. You can't always get what you want  Wink

Wonder if I'll manage to sleep with this ringing in my ears?

wow i dont even have words

i spent 1000s of dollars to see this show and it was worth every penny the sound was AMAZING the noise jam makes fucking mezbow, wolf eyes, whitehouse etc al. all pale in comparison.

as soon as only shallow kicked in...holy shit

as they were getting on stage I just kept yelling out HOLY SHIT

belindas guitars were beautiful

yes all the legends are true, there is no other band like this nor will be

when you see them live, the bootlegs you own/download become worthless because NOTHING comes close to the pure fucking blast of noise and bliss.

its all true, all of it, MBV is back and we are all lucky to have another chance to witness a band that only comes once in a lifetime

nights 2 and 3 here I come

Also the dude I hung out with aut side from AUS. was a supernice dude. Sold this person his ticket for TEN pounds. She was from germany and lost her ticket, and her debt card didnt work in the UK or something. Dude just pulled out his extra and said just gimmie ten. Wow, if yr reading this get in touch dude
