Let's send him a letter!

And demand him to make a statement. About. Something.

Dear fawning message board,

Who is this 'Kevin Shields' band?  They're bloody terrible!

Sincerely,

Kevin Shields

That said, I am curious to see what he has to say about a lot of things.  I'm not about to harass the guy to find out though.

I'd like to know if he'd consent to have his and Lolada's Chinchillas breed.

We wouldn't be harassing him! We'd just be tracking down his house and sending him a letter. And breeding his chinchillas. And stealing from his fridge.

I don't believe this. Why would he tell this big news to a random person he meets at a gig in Russia? Or did he really think this person would keep it for himself? Kevin doesn't seem like the kind of person who's looking for attention, and he'll sure get it if this is all true..

No offense to the poster btw.

If this is actually true than it's the best thing to ever happen in my life, I've been wanting them to reform for years.. God it would be so great to see them live and to hear a new album.   Shocked
i agree with everything in this post...

ha ha.  i bet it'd be so much fun getting to bum around his house (while he was out) (without his knowledge) (at night).  given how exciting it is whenever we've found out that he smiled at someone who mentioned my bloody valentine in the past ten years, it'd blow your mind to find anything like ... a guitar, there.

Fucking hell lads, look what I just came across on an Irish music messageboard I occasionally look at:

Hello!!,

Quint here, formerly known as Antistar. I used to post here about a year ago before the upgrade nightmare but enough of that...I went over to see Mogwai at Somerset House, London but while waiting for them to come on who should walk past only the Godlike genius that is Kevin Shields of My Bloody Valentine, creator of 'Loveless', one the greatest albums of all time and my all-time rock hero. Anyway, to cut a long story short and thanks to about 4 pints-worth of Dutch courage, I approached him as I would have regretted it for the rest of my life if I hadn't. He is one of the nicest, unassuming guys you could ever meet. So much for the 'never meet your heroes' rule. I asked him any chance of a new album or tour and here's the scoop...

2 new albums: One an anthology of unreleased material from the nineties, and a completely new album.

A tour in 2008!

He also mentioned that they were asked to play a gig 'at some museum in Dublin later in the year' as he put it, I presume this is POD marquee thing at IMMA in late Oct/November but he didn't seem that sure whether they were going to play as they are not ready yet to play live until the proper tour next year....

There have been rumours before about MBV reunion but this was from the main man himself and he seemed pretty definite about their upcoming plans....here's hoping!

Yet another indpendent source claiming to have met Kevin Shields and 'confirming' the rumours we've heard from other sources recently!.. Or are people starting to get wind of it and post copycat messages now? It seems genuine enough.. You have to wonder why there's no official word on this anywhere yet if it actually is going ahead though.. Is it possible Kevin is just sick of getting asked the inevitable questions about a reuinion and is winding us all up for a bit of a laugh?

Doubtful.

It's like the remastered EPs business a few years ago - he was definitely talking about it, even to fans he'd bump into on the street, about how there would be 4 unreleased tracks, a greatest hits disc released at the same time, about how Colm was into it 'in spirit'  etc. - but I think Kevin puts these ideas out to see for himself if it's a good idea or not and if the idea sticks around and a momentum builds around it then it'd happen.

Talk of a band reunion is different though, he'd never do that unless the others were up for it too. So it's very possibly VERY GOOD NEWS!!!!

aww man.  i'm so excited.  it would probably make me look more interesting to internet strangers if i didn't say, this is the most exciting thing in my life, but it so is.  i get tingly when i think about seeing the valentines.  and hearing that archive stuff, too!  i'd wondered whether the new record would encompass the stuff kevin said would come out one day.

well, i'd agree...i was only six years old when loveless came out and when i discovered them years later, i never believed that i would be able to see them live but if this comes true, this would be truly awesome....

think kevin might've gotten some extra motivation to reunite mbv after seeing the pixies, dino jr., jamc do it?
