Yes, I have the magazine.  It's not really an interview so much as a big explanation from Kevin.  He covers a lot of stuff...  To summarize, he talks about how they really made Creation famous and got all their money makers to sign on and that the labels problems were from drugs basically, how Loveless didn't really cost that much to make, how the label manager Dick Green was kind of disagreeable, and other stuff surrounding the business and some of the production of the album.  It's not a whole lot of stuff we didn't know before, but it's really interesting anyway.

As if it wasn't enough to buy this magazine for the article as a whole, the last paragraph is very interesting.  I quote;

A lot of people say the reason My Bloody Valentine didn't make another record is because we couldn't.  That's mostly true, but not because we couldn't make another record, but because I never could be bothered to make another record unless I was really excited by it.  And just by fate or whatever, that never happened.  I'm quite optimistic about the future, even though experience has taught me that I'm probably just delusional.  I do feel that I will make another great record.  We are 100 percent going to make another My Bloody Valentine record unless we die or something.  I'd feel really bad if I didn't make another record.  Like, "Shit, people only got the first two chapters, but the last bit is the best bit."  It's just that it's taken me such an oddly long time for that to happen.  How long will that take to transpire into an actual physical record?  I don't know.

Now we could go all up in arms about the exact wording of this paragraph, and we probably will, but it's classic Kevin nonetheless.  One second he's all optimistic, and then he's all "yeah, unless we all die!  Or...something!"  Great.  Nice.

My guess is, as always, that he will end up getting inspired by the fact that he can't live off doing nothing forever.  For whatever reason, this article gives me a fair bit of happiness.  I like the whole thing.  Everyone should get it.

Excellent, thanks for the heads-up. I'll be scouring the larger newsagents and music shops tomorrow in search of this! It's exciting that Kevin at least still appears to have the intense desire to make more great music (I was afraid his lack of activity had basically been down to losing interest), though God knows how long we might have to wait to hear anything from him. Is there anything at all in there about the supposed remastering\reissuing of the MBV EPs, or other projects related to the back catalogue?

I didn't even know Magnet was still around.  They put out issues so infrequently these days.

They did a really good feature on shoegazing in general about five years ago, complete with interviews with Kevin and Colm (as well as a full page color picture from the same shoot that yielded the fairly ubiquitous Loveless-era promo shot).  It's actually what first turned me on to MBV.

Nah, nothing like that.  I'm not sure if he would even mention anything like that if it was on the roster.  It was more setting unfair rumors straight and looking onward to new material, not older stuff.

Cool.. I wonder if it's possible that this sudden 'setting the record straight' stuff might have been inspired by the fact that the Continuum 33 1/3rd Loveless book is due out very soon? Maybe Kev wants to give his version of events before they appear in print interpreted by a third party.

Kevin actually helped with that book, it's not just a third party account. There's interviews with all members of the band, ect... blah blah blah.

This is your bloody valentine...finally!

The My Bloody Valentine "Loveless" 33 1/3 arrived in the office today, and as Mat pointed out "it's got words in it."
Just flipping through it quickly I came across a sentence about "Soon" that describes it as "the obvious hit single, and the song that weathered a remix by Andrew Weatherall." A long time ago someone made me a tape with this remix that I pretty much wore out, despite the intro that features a "Here we go... uhhhhh-huh" break worthy of Color Me Badd. Amazingly, the remix still sounds about like this.

It is available for pre-order on Amazon now, and should be shipping in a couple weeks at most, so keep an eye out.

If there will be really a new MBV record, do you think it's going to be recorded by the historical line-up?
In practice, do you think there are good chanches that Debbie and Colm re-joined the band?  (Because Bilinda still should be part of the group, as Kevin said in an interview)

 Huh

Well, I don't think Debbie contributed much to Loveless and Colm was sampled (in one way or another) on it due to illness. I don't think it would be a huge loss if Debbie wasn't involved (although it would be cool if she was in), but Colm's drumming style is so distinct it would be like when John Stainer wasn't involved in Helmets reformation and Bilinda needs to be in to be the pretty face.
